Uk : Teenagers Arrested Following Discovery Of Major Cannabis Factory

Hi

06 July 2010

Two teenagers were arrested when a police raid discovered a large cannabis factory in a Northampton home, which could have supplied drugs to more than 1,000 people.
Police acting on a tip-off from the public found more than 500 plants at various stages of maturity in the end-of-terrace house in Thorn Hill, on the Briar Hill estate, yesterday morning.

Officers discovered five rooms on the upper two floors of the three-storey house had

been given over to cultivation of the plants. They also found evidence of the property's electricity supply having been bypassed.

Pc Edward Horsburgh, from the Delapre and Briar Hill safer community team, said the factory was the biggest he had seen in the area.

He said: "There's a nursery and the top floor is given over to plants that are midway through their growth, but a room on the first floor is pretty much ready to harvest so we've caught it just in time.

"This is the biggest I've seen in two years policing this area, and it's good to have caught it in progress.

"I think it's probably providing most of the cannabis in Briar Hill so I think the community will feel the effects of it being closed down. It's a good result for us. The harvest in here could probably supply in excess of 1,000 people so I'm quite pleased to be keeping it off the streets."

Police were alerted to the factory by a resident. Officers used thermal imaging cameras to scan the house before raiding it, arresting an 18-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy on suspicion of cultivating cannabis.

The teenagers, both Vietnamese nationals, were last night being questioned by police.

Uk: Cannabis Grower Is Told He Is An "idiot" After He Is Cau

A JUDGE told a convicted cannabis grower he was an "idiot" as he sentenced him for having a crop worth thousands of pounds in his loft.

Nottingham Crown Court heard that Daniel King, 25, already had previous convictions for possessing and cultivating cannabis.

"You are an idiot," said Judge Jonathan Teare.

"You know what cultivating cannabis leads to because you had a suspended sentence before. You breached that and had to serve it. What do you do? You go and do it again. You knew what you were doing. You are an intelligent man."

Police raided King's home in Carlton last November and found 22 plants in the loft, six of which were his.

He said he came under pressure to hold 16 plants at his address for someone else, who police have been unable to locate on the information given.

Nottingham Crown Court heard he had no intention of selling them and planned to return them to the person he was storing them for. He gained nothing financially.

The drugs weighed 1.91kgs, of which 1.22kgs were female flowering heads, considered to be the most valuable part. Valuations ranged from £4,730 to £12,000.

King, now of Ernest Road, Carlton, pleaded guilty to producing cannabis and possession with intent to supply.

He received a nine-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, and 180 hours of unpaid work.

He must attend a Thinking Skills Programme and be supervised by the Probation Service.

Claire Moran, mitigating, asked for credit for his plea of guilty and said the six other plants were for his personal use.

She said he is a head chef at a pub, goes to the gym and spends time with his children.

His partner, who does not use drugs, is supporting him, she added.

Uk - Three Men Are On The Run

hi

150 cannabis plants found following police raid on Bradford Moor house

7:08pm Tuesday 11th May 2010

By Steve Wright

Three men are on the run after police uncovered a sophisticated cannabis factory in Bradford following a tip off from the public.

Around 150 cannabis plants, worth several thousand pounds, were found in two upstairs bedrooms and two attic rooms of the terraced house in Leeds Road, Bradford Moor, when police raided it this morning.

Officers forced their way into the house just before 9am, following a call from a resident living nearby who had seen three men carrying full black bin bags to a white Ford van at 4.45am.

They found cannabis plants and drugs paraphernalia on two floors of the property and a tunnel had been dug in the cellar, linking the electricity supply to a street lamp outside.

Sergeant John Collins, of Bradford South Police, said it was a sophisticated cannabis factory, set up with ventilation and lighting, silver foil on the walls and plastic sheets over windows.

He said the tunnel to the street lamp had been a risky operation and potentially dangerous because it linked in to the mains supply.

He urged people to be vigilant and watch out for tell-tale signs of cannabis factories, such as strange smells, sounds of banging, and curtians closed and lights on at all hours.

Neighbourhood Policing Inspector Tim Done said: “This was a great example of the police and public working together to combat drugs. I’d like to thank the person who reported this to us.

“Another cannabis farm has been closed down and more drugs taken off the streets of Bradford.”

It is not known who owns the property or who lives there, but it is thought the suspects had occupied the premises for long enough to harvest some of the cannabis plants.

Uk: Goody's Mum Cautioned Over Cannabis

The mother of late British reality TV star JADE GOODY has been cautioned after she was caught smoking cannabis outside a London bar - just weeks after she vowed to give up drugs.

Jackiey Budden, mother of the beloved Big Brother star who lost her fight with cervical cancer last year (09), was given an official cannabis warning from cops after they found her smoking the drug outside a pub in south London, according to U.K. newspaper The Sun.

If she is caught with the drug again, she will be instantly arrested.

The incident comes just two months after Budden promised on British TV to get clean, following the release of a video showing the 52 year old snorting cocaine.
